DIY Art with Copper Molds!

Canvas, paint and copper molds. How much easier could this craft get?!

When I was a kid, there were several old copper molds hanging in the kitchen. Funny, though, I don't remember them ever being used . . .

These copper molds were bought at the local thrift shop. I've also seen them frequently at garage sales. Ask your mom or grandma for their old molds!

You will need:

Old or new canvas / sheet of wood / foam board / any flat thing you'd like to paint
Acrylic paint:
- 1 or 2 colors for the background
- 1 color for stamping
Paint brushes
Paper plate
2 or more copper molds

Choose your backdrop. I decided to paint over a piece I painted aeons ago. Embarrassing in its horribleness, I know.

Paint your entire backdrop. Use multiple layers of acrylic paint with visible brush strokes so that you can build up some texture on your canvas. Texture will add more visual interest.

You may wish to lightly add another color with a dry brush to give the piece of bit more depth. Your choice! Let dry completely.

Pour your stamping color on a paper plate.

Dip the base of your molds in paint. Set carefully on top of canvas. Make sure not to move it side to side. Moving even slightly to the side will smudge the stamp!

Lift straight up from the canvas. Stamp the canvas as many times as you'd like!

Let dry.

Find a place to hang it!

  1. Love this idea! My mom and grandmother used to have so many of these molds, and I'm totally wishing I'd gotten my hands on some before they cleaned house!

    1. They're great for holding trinkets, too! It's funny how colors, even metal colors, go in and out of style. Kinda makes me not want to throw anything away . . .

Thanks for visiting! Love the Girl Power pendant!
