Make a Super-Sized Party Sub!

Want to learn how to make a super-long sub that's great for any get-together? You've come to the right place :-).

Groceries needed:
  • 2 Loaves of French bread
  • Olive oil
  • 2/3 to 1 LB thinly sliced Roast Beef
  • 2/3 to 1 LB thinly sliced Ham
  • 2/3 to 1 LB thinly sliced Turkey
  • 1/2 LB thinly sliced Hard Salami
  • 1/2 LB sliced cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 LB sliced provolone cheese
  • 2  medium-sized ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 head red or green-leaf lettuce, washed, dried and de-veined
  • 1 small jar hamburger pickles

Supplies needed:
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Pastry brush
  • Extra-tall toothpicks
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Foil (optional)
  • Round stickers (optional)

Get your ingredients ready!

Halve your ingredients. You'll be making two separate sandwiches, each using half of the total meat & veggies.

Slice each loaf of bread in half so that there's a top and bottom.

Optional: Pull out a strip of bread from the middle of each top slice. This will keep the sandwich from falling apart, both while prepping and eating!

Lightly brush the cut sides of the bread with olive oil.

Place the provolone cheese on the bottom half of the bread. If your cheddar cheese is in large squares, cut each slice into 2 triangles. Lay cheddar on top of provolone.

Start layering the meat: roast beef, ham, turkey and hard salami.

Add the lettuce, tomato & pickle slices.

Place the bread on top.

Lay out a piece of plastic wrap approximately 1 1/3 the length of one sub. Cut and lay another piece, the same size, so that the pieces overlap on the long edge.

Place sub on the plastic, pull up the plastic on the short edges and tightly wrap the sub all the way around. Lay out more plastic wrap to double-wrap the sandwich. Repeat steps for second sub.

Refrigerate for at least two hours (but not more than 24 hours). This will help the sandwich 'set' and make it easier to slice.

Take subs out of the refrigerator right before serving.

Unwrap subs and place extra-long toothpicks STRAIGHT DOWN approximately 1 1/2 inches away from each other down the length of the sub. If they're put in at an angle, you may end up cutting the toothpicks inside the sub. Splinters are not yummy!

Slice between the toothpicks.

Add flair to your picks with washi tape or round stickers!

Find space for your sandwich. Find something to put your sandwich on - a long piece of foil, folded in half, will do the trick.

Now two become one: place one sub on the table. Pull the slices apart, leave spaces between the slices. Take the slices from the second sub and fit them into the first sub.

Eat the two extra ends to get rid of the evidence. As far as anyone knows, this is One Huge Sub!

I like food that's crafty :-)

Sorry, no pretty end pictures since I packed this sucker up and took it to the park for Night to Unite! It ended up being about four feet long. Twenty-eight slices (minus the six that I set aside for Mike!).
